AITI Introduces Competition Code for Telecommunications and Broadcasting

The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) has awarded the contract for consultancy services to develop, implement and support implementation of a converged regulatory framework for AITI to Rajah & Tann LLP on 18 August 2011.  The project is to review the current telecommunication licensing framework in view of the rapidly changing technology landscape especially in the areas of convergence in Telecommunications and Broadcasting. 

 
From this project, AITI launched its first public consultation paper Developing a Converged Telecommunications and Media Regulatory Framework for Brunei Darussalam – Implementation of a New Licensing Structure” which was recently closed on 18 May 2012. It was done to seek views from the industry of the proposed licensing and regulatory framework to be adopted by AITI.
 
As part of the Converged Regulatory Framework, AITI intends to introduce a competition code for the telecommunications and broadcasting industry to ensure the growth of the telecommunications and broadcasting industry can be further improved and sustained. The Public Consultation Paper on Competition code for the telecommunications and broadcasting industry has been launched today and is available for download from AITI’s website www.aiti.gov.bn and will be closed on 4 July 2012 at 3.30pm.
