AITI Shows Appreciation to Former Members of Authority and Welcomes New Members of Authority

​The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) last night had an appreciation dinner for the former Members of Authority (Board of Directors) at Li Gong restaurant at The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
 
The function’s Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications. In attendance of the function were Dato Paduka Haji Awang Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohammad Taha, Permanent Secretary of The Ministry of Communications and Chairman of AITI, Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communications, Haji Suhaila bin Haji Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Haji Yahkup bin Haji Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI, previous Members of Authority for AITI, new Members of Authority for AITI, Head of Departments and Staff of Ministry of Communications and AITI.
 
The function began with a welcoming speech by Dato Paduka Haji Awang Alaihuddin.
 
Yang Berhormat Pehin in his  speech acknowledged the former Members:

Hj Suhaila bin Hj Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Education
Hj Zainal Abidin bin Hj Md Ali, Deputy Managing Director, Brunei Shell Petroleum Co.
Rosdi Amin Bin Dato Paduka Haji Yaakub, Deputy CEO and Head of Global Banking HSBC Limited, HSBC
Pengiran Haji Mohamad bin Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, Chairman of Alif Technologies Sdn Bhd
Jefri Bin Abd Rahman, Deputy Senior Councel, Attorney Generals Chambers,Prime Minister's Office
 
Yang Berhormat Pehin also mentioned under the guidance of the former Members several achievements that AITI has accomplished during the 2010-2012 period. These were:
 
1) Accreditation of ICT Businesses (AAB and ICTAB)
2) ICT Grant Scheme
3) Participation in the CommunicAsia, gave the local ICT players a platform to showcase their products to international investor and foster networks with business partners.
4) AITI has also taken the lead in promoting local innovators with the organization of the BICTA and APICTA award which Brunei Darussalam has proudly came back with a winner in APICTA 2011 which was held in Pattaya, Thailand. Meanwhile, APICTA 2012 will be hosted in Brunei Darussalam.
5) ICT Competency Program
6) Several public awareness seminars that AITI has conducted and
7) Coordinating the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD).
 
Yang Berhormat Pehin announced that by the consent of His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, the new members have been elected for the period of 2012-2014:
 
Dato Paduka Hj Alaihuddin bin POKDG Haji Mohd Taha Chairman of AITI and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communication
Abdul Mutalib Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Communication
Pengiran Abdul Razak bin Pengiran Abdul Wahab, Accountant General
Adi Shamsul bin Haji Sabli, Director, E-Government National Centre
Hj Yahkup bin Hj Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI
Hajah Ruhayu binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Razak, Principal counsel and Head of Civil Division for Attorney General Chambers.
 
He congratulated on the nomination of the new members and said that with the diverse background from the new members, their input will be beneficial to the future direction and strategy that AITI is heading. He referred to the focus areas of AITI, in particular he highlighted the establishment of the framework and the construction of the infrastructure of the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) in Brunei Darussalam.
 
In closing, Yang Berhormat Pehin hoped that AITI will move up another level on all future projects with the guidance of the new Members of Authority.
