AITI hosts 3D animation industry sharing workshop
The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) today hosted an Industry Sharing Workshop at its Seri Kerna Hall in Anggerek Desa. More than 50 participants from the local production houses, digital media industry, students and individuals within the digital creative and animation field attended the workshop.
This workshop is held in conjunction with the ANIMASI IMMERSE 3D Animation Challenge which is currently opened for entries in two categories - Open and Professional - with cash prizes of up to $10,000 to be won. This challenge is part of the AITI’s and iCentre’s collaboration to nurture local talents and support businesses in the field of Brunei-made digital animation productions.
Present to welcome the participants was AITI’s Chief Executive, Awang Haji Yahkup Haji Menudin. In his opening remarks, he highlighted that digital media in Brunei is a growing industry with many great opportunities that requires people of different skills, knowledge and talents. Hence, digital media can create new job opportunities which will contribute to Brunei’s economic diversification.  The workshop featured four distinguished speakers from the local and regional digital media industry to share their journeys and experiences of perseverance, challenges and the struggles they overcame to succeed in the world of digital media. Haji Yahkup hoped that this workshop would inspire and motivate the participants to face challenges with more determination and an open-mind to achieve success.
The workshop started with a sharing of experience by Hassan Muthalib, a veteran animator, writer and director from Malaysia with over five decades of experience. He made the popular Sang Kancil animation series back in the 1980's. Having written and directed Malaysia’s first animation feature film, Silat Legenda, Hassan has shared some tips and techniques on story and visual development based on lessons learnt over 50 years.
The second presenter was Ng Jin Chong from Mirayi Sdn Bhd. Mirayi is an animation studio specializing in Digital Animation Cartoon Series and Film in Malaysia. Ng delivered a talk on how his company became one of the studios behind the 3D animated action-adventure series “Mask Master” which made its debut in Korea.
Denny Azriman of Ambuyarts Animations Company and Siti Kamaluddin of Origin Films were also invited to share their experience in starting their journeys as local animation and film production players in Brunei.
The workshop ended with a question and answer session, and a group photograph by the speakers and participants.
AITI would like to encourage the industry and public to participate in this year’s ANIMASI IMMERSE 3D Animation Challenge. Final day to submit the entries for Open Category is 10th November 2013 and for Professional Category is 6th December 2013.
