One of the objectives of the workshop was to provide understanding on how to write effectively compelling characters as well as gripping story that will engage the audience. During the workshop, participants will be guided to produce a short script with a duration of fifteen (15) minutes.
Two (2) best scripts will be selected and offered an opportunity to be produced and telecast during the upcoming National Day. These two (2) short videos will also be considered to take part in short film festivals regionally and internationally.
In his opening remarks, Yang Mulia Haji Jailani Hj Buntar, Acting Chief Executive of AITI stated that “This workshop is not just about giving out knowledge but it will provide a medium for the participants to gain the hands-on experience in producing their own scripts. Hopefully, this opportunity will give a good motivation to the participants to produce more creative contents.” He further reiterated that short video participation in festivals is important because most established international production studios scout for talents and new ideas through festivals and Brunei has a lot of undiscovered talents and ideas and hopefully this will open more opportunity in the future.
The workshop was conducted by Hassan Muthalib, a self-taught artist, designer, animator, film director and writer. He has won awards for his first live-action filmlet for an Anti-Drug Campaign, Best Visual Effects for a feature film, and a Best Documentary Jury Award for his first documentary. He sits on various advisory panels for the education and film industry and is also a frequent jury member for film festivals
The “Short Video Production” workshop is one of a series of workshop by AITI to nurture the growth of the local broadcasting and digital media industry. AITI hopes that this workshop would help to expose and attract the local players to explore into the creative technology and produce equally innovative contents for Brunei.
