Activities for the upcoming WORLD TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SOCIETY DAY (WTISD) 2013

11th May 2013 - The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) celebrated each year on 17 May, to mark the anniversary of the signature of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 which led to the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).  
 
The theme for WTISD this year is ‘ICTs and Improving Road Safety’.  For this year’s celebration, a series of activities have been organized by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) with support of the Ministry of Communications and the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Council. The activities include a forum and an exhibition which will be held on Saturday, 18 May 2013 at the Rizqun International Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
 
The Forum will consist of presentations and panel discussions by local and international speakers on the topics related to the theme ‘ICTs and Improving Road Safety’.  Among the topics discussed and presented in the forum will include the ‘Role of ICTs & Road Safety implications and Driver Distraction and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)’ to be presented by an international speaker from ITU, Mr Martin Adolph. The forum is an opportunity for experts and relevant stakeholders to share information to the public on the latest ICT development and its contribution towards improving road safety.
 
An exhibition will be held back-to-back with the forum showcasing the current and upcoming ICT technologies that can contribute towards improving road safety. Among the exhibitors are ICT companies, car dealers and telecommunication service providers. The exhibition will be open to public from 1:30 pm to 6 pm and will be located at the Rizqun International Hotel, Sutera Hall, level 4. Entrance is free for public.
 
In addition to the activities for celebrating WTISD 2013, a drawing and an essay writing competition will be held. Prior to the main WTISD 2013 event, a “Doa Kesyukuran” ceremony will be held on Friday, 17 May 2013 at the Ash Shaliheen Mosque, Prime Minister’s Office, in Kg Melabau, Bandar Seri Begawan.
