04/06/2016

The Brunei Info-Communications Technology Awards (BICTA) 2016 Working Committee has continued its initiative to organise another series of workshops to assist registered participants of the BICTA competition to prepare and improve their entries for the actual judging.

The second workshop focusing on market validation was organised recently in two (2) sessions at AITI's Seri Kerna Hall.  The first session conducted on 1st June 2016 for the School Project Category was facilitated by Dr. Hajah Mona Yati DSLJ Hj Mohd Kassim, CEO of MuBN Training and Mr Ambrose Nathan, Managing Directorof Bizadvize Services Sdn Bhd.

The workshop began with a presentation from Mr Ambrose Nathan on "Why Finance Matters" using a Nasi Katok analogy.  This workshop provides the participants with the opportunity to learn and understand basic financial management.  Meanwhile, Dr. Hajah Mona Yati shared the 'Business Model Canvas' which is a tool to create and analyse business model using nine (9) building blocks. The registered participants from private and government schools were introduced to a hands-on learning on market validation highlighting the importance of validating products, ensuring product concepts meet the potential target markets, guidance to test, market and sell their products, as well as to gain acceptance and willingness to buy from users.

The second session targeting BICTA 2016 participants from the Tertiary and ICT Industry Category was conducted on 2nd June 2016. It was facilitated by Mr Radi El-Fassed, Head Development of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd (PCSB). He spoke about Progresif's startup lab, market validation, crossing the chasm, market sizing, building and evaluating own finance, and financing new venture.

All the participants in both sessions were engaged in group activities to practice the lessons learned. The final series of the BICTA 2016 workshop will cover the topic on Presentation & Pitching Skills. The workshop will be held in July and aims to train participants on effective presentation structure and pitching so they will be equipped with the necessary skills to engage and sell their products to the panel of judges during the Judging session in August this year.

It is hoped that the participants will be able to learn and apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills into their final submissions as well as their studies or professions.
