Brunei Darussalam will compete in a prestigious international ICT competition, the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards, which will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 17th to 22nd November 2015. Participation of Brunei Darussalam in APICTA 2015 will be represented by seven (7) teams comprising winners and runner-ups of the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2015.
The APICTA Awards is an annual international awards program which aims to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the digital divide. By providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and entrepreneurs in the region, the program is designed to stimulate ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, and offer business matching opportunities via exposure to venture capitalists and investors.
Participants of APICTA Awards consists of sixteen (16) member economies, namely Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Nepal. They are guided by the Framework of Cooperation identifying how member economies can work together in support of the Awards Program as well as other programs that foster development and growth of the ICT industry in the region.
Delegation of Brunei Darussalam to APICTA 2015 was led by Julianah binti Haji Ali Ahmad, Senior Assistant Chief Executive of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), who is also one of Brunei's Executive Committee (ExCo) members in APICTA. Other Brunei ExCo member representatives at this event are Sheikh Abas bin Sheikh Mohamad and Gary Liau Tian Soon, Chairman and Treasurer of InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) respectively.
Present to send-off the delegation at the Brunei International Airport was Pengiran Hj Md Zain bin Pengiran Hj Abd Razak, Chief Executive of AITI cum Advisor of the BICTA 2015 Working Committee.

The Brunei's delegation also include three (3) Judges, namely Jennifer Voon Nyuk Hiong of Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB); Dr. Fadzliwati binti Mohiddin of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); and Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Hj Abd Latiff of SUHBE Co, as well as one advisory judging panel, namely Dr. Yong Chee Tuan of YiEcomodern Solutions Sdn Bhd.
Brunei's participation in the APICTA Awards is a continuous initiative by the Ministry of Communications to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT, as well as to develop the nation's ICT sector by encouraging individuals, students and businesses to compete at the international level. Since 2008, Brunei has achieved two (2) winner awards, thirteen (13) merit awards and one (1) special mention.
