Minister of Communications Witnessed Letter of Exchange at Malaysia Pavilion
19/06/2013
The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had a Letter of Exchange (LOE) ceremony at the Malaysia Pavilion at CommunicAsia 2013.

The ceremony was witnessed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications and Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery bin Cheek, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia (MCMC). Signatories to the signing were Yang Mulia Tuan Haji Yahkup Haji Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI and Yang Mulia Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, Chairman of MCMC.

The LOE serves as the next step towards further collaboration and cooperation between the two regulators in the area of telecommunications, broadcasting and multimedia matters including content regulation and development.  Activities to be executed under the LOE includes having regular regulatory exchanges or study visits carried out either in Malaysia or Brunei Darussalam; dispatching of experts to assist either parties and also facilitation and promotion of strategic and/or commercial industry partnerships between industry players from both countries.  Further areas of cooperation and collaboration includes legal and institutional development, content regulation and development.

The collaboration executed under the LOE will enhance the expertise in AITI as it prepares to become the converged telecommunications and media regulator in Brunei Darussalam.  The LOE will also further enhance the close working relationship which AITI and MCMC have built over the years.
