Multimedia and Animation Ties Between AITI and Malaysian MDEC

PRESS RELEASE​

​The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) today has officially bound the ties with Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDeC) of Malaysia at the Seri Kerna Hall, AITI office in Anggerek Desa with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Today’s event marks yet another significant milestone achieved by AITI in our efforts to develop and promote the growth of our local ICT.
 
The signing of the MOU between AITI and MDeC was witnessed by the Guest of Honour, Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah Bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar. Also present as a witness to the signing is the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, His Excellency Dato Abdullah Sani bin Omar. AITI was represented by Awang Haji Yahkup bin Haji Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI and MDeC was represented by their CEO, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.

With the MOU, AITI and MDeC would be able to strengthen and facilitate business collaborations between the creative content industry in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, including specific digital content, animations, Visual Effects (VFX) and post-production projects opportunities for creative multimedia companies in both countries. Other objectives are to promote R&D activities alliances and to promote industry and student attachments between the creative industry in Brunei and Malaysia.

 
Among the invited guests present during this ceremony were acting Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Communications and acting Chairman of AITI’s Members of Authority, Awang Abdul Mutalib bin POKSSDP Haji Mohd Yusof and Encik Kamil Othman, Vice-President of Creative Multimedia Department of MDeC and various representatives from relevant agencies.

With this collaboration, it is hoped to create a platform for participation in bilateral trade promotions in the creative multimedia industry, including new media and digital content conferences, trade shows and other creative-related networking events and business matching activities of creative companies through representation to government bodies and professional organisations. Furthermore, the MOU includes promoting the exchange of best practices and technology transfer through exchange of delegations via e-Learning and training programs; facilitating benchmarking and sharing of knowledge in research and data in broadcasting and digital content-related market information and competitive business intelligence such as exchanging market reports and whitepapers; and participating in any government led initiatives under the banner of ASEAN, OIC and other similar regional or bilateral agreements.

Following up this MOU, delegates from MDeC and officers of AITI will be attending a working visit to relevant local agencies namely Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Institute Teknologi Brunei (ITB) on 8th of June 2011 to gain information and knowledge on the status of multimedia and animation in Brunei Darussalam as well as to share ideas and experiences in the field of creative content.
