The Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and the Department of Schools, Minister of Education has collaborated to organize the Creative Presentation Competition. The competition, which ran from July to October this year, was opened to all students from Year 7 to 9 in public and private schools throughout the country.
The competition, which is being held for the second year running, received a positive response from the learning institutions, with 18 submissions from 9 schools received. The participating schools this year are Sekolah Menengah Lambak Kiri, Sekolah Menengah Masin, Sekolah Menengah Menglait, Sekolah Menengah PAP Hjh Masna, Sekolah Menengah PAP Hjh Rashidah Lumut, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina 'Othman Tutong, Sekolah Menengah Sufri Bolkiah Tutong, and Sekolah Menengah Sultan Sharif Ali.
Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina 'Othman Tutong won top honours in the competition, while Sekolah Menengah PAP Hjh Masna and Sekolah Menengah Masin came in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Present to hand over prizes to the winners was Haji Osman bin Haji Ladis, Acting Chief Executive of AITI. In his speech, Haji Osman highlighted that among the aims of the competition is to raise awareness on the potential threats and risks of the Internet and social media. Apart from this, the competition also hoped to nurture the students' self-confidence and public speaking skills.
Prior to the prize presentation, a junior forum was held at Dewan Seri Kerna, AITI, which saw panels from the Top 3 schools discussing the theme of the competition, which is "Be Aware, Secure and Vigilant". Moderating the forum was ASP Hjh Mariyani binti Hj Abdul Wahab from the Royal Brunei Police Force.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, principals of participating schools as well as senior officers from AITI.
