5th Generation (5G) Mobile Services Now Available Nationwide

The Authority for Info-communications Techonology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), together with Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN), Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), Imagine Sdn Bhd (imagine) and Progresif Sdn Bhd (Progresif), is proud to announce that 5G services is now available, starting on 22 June 2023. The existence of a 5G network is a milestone in development of the technological landscape for Brunei Darussalam.
From the establishment of a national 5G Taskforce, to the initiation of 5G Pilot Project, where Proof of Concepts (PoC) were conducted at several strategic locations, to the partnerships established among the local telecommunication companies with strong industry players to provide the best service for their subscribers, the telecommunications sector have made extensive preparations to ready the nation for 5G.
The country’s telecommunications network infrastructure has undergone several transformation projects – Radio Access Network (RAN) Expansion, Modernisation Programs (Fiberisation), and Virtualization & Cloud as a Technology – to modernise and expand ICT infrastructure to provide better speeds for mobile services and improve fixed network services in Brunei Darussalam. To date, 90% of populated areas is covered for mobile services that are 5G-ready with continuos efforts to improve nationwide coverage.
Through the introduction of 5G services, it opens up a world full of potential and opportunities to enhance digitalisation among everyone, where individuals, businesses and communities alike can leverage the advantages of 5G technology.
With this 5G rollout, 5G-capable devices are required to access the network. For more information on mobile plans, subscribers may approach their respective service providers.
As part of the telecommunications sector’s continuous commitment towards enabling digital connectivity nationwide, there are ongoing programmes to further expand telecommunication network coverage to rural areas in order to bridge the digital divide, create more equitable access to essential services, and boost economic opportunities for all citizens.
