AITI’s Donation Drive Gives Back to Community

Friday, March 31, 2023

In conjunction with its 20th anniversary of establishment, the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) organised a Ramadhan Food Donation Drive today as part of its social responsibility in contributing to the community.

Continuing the annual tradition of AITI’s donation drives during the month of Ramadhan, this initiative is being expanded with additional activities that are hoped to make an even greater impact in giving back to the community. AITI employees contributed to this special event, which was held at the Youth Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan, by preparing, cooking, packing and distributing iftar meals, as well as donating basic household necessities and financial aid to underprivileged families, constructions workers, orphanages and those in need of assistance in the Brunei-Muara district.

AITI distributed a total of 500 packed meals to abovementioned families and individuals. Additionally, eight (8) underprivileged families received basic necessities hampers and financial assistance.

Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, the Chief Executive of AITI stated that organising this event to commemorate the holy month of Ramadhan, where good deeds reap greater rewards than any other month, can help build rapport among AITI employees and encourage teamwork towards contributing to a good and empathetic cause. With this initiative, the positive engagement among employees may also contribute to AITI’s mission of becoming a high performing organisation with a shared sense of accountability to achieve a common goal and encourage the continuation of such acts of kindness to support those in need.

Since its enactment on 1 January 2003 through the AITI Order, 2001, AITI has been responsible for performing regulatory functions for telecommunication systems and services; managing the national radio-frequency spectrum; protecting consumers’ interest by promoting competitive pricing and ensuring quality of services; as well as developing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry for Brunei Darussalam.

Over the past two decades, AITI has made excellent progress and continue to strive towards achieving the vision of transforming Brunei Darussalam into a Connected Smart Nation through the development of a thriving digital industry, a connected nation, and a digitally-enriched society.

It is hoped that this initiative will help to alleviate some of the burdens on those in need.  This initiative exemplifies AITI’s commitment to making a positive social impact and as part of its endeavour to instill a sense of community in its employees. AITI is grateful for the involvement of all AITI employees in making this year’s Ramadhan drive a success.
