Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools

Rimba - The Ministry of Education through the Department of Curriculum Development in collaboration with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) today held the Smart Device Handover Ceremony for the Pilot Project of ‘Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools’ to four government primary schools and four government secondary schools at Sekolah rendah Rimba III.

Present as the guest of honours at the event were Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education and Yang Mulia Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive, AITI.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and doa selamat. The ceremony then continued with a welcome speech by Yang Mulia Dayang Siti Zaraura binti Haji Mohammad, Acting Assistant Chief Executive, AITI and was followed by the handing over of smart devices by the Chief Executive of AITI to the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education who then delivered the equipment to the school leaders of the schools involved. The ceremony ended by the demonstration of learning activities and the use of smart devices such as Bee-Bot, 6-in-1 Ring: bit Bricks pack and micro: Maqueen micro: bit Robot in the classroom.

The pilot project is an initiative to improve coding skills and computational thinking through learning using smart devices, especially for primary and secondary students in Brunei Darussalam. With these skills, it is hoped that it can encourage students their 21st Century and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills.
