Press Release

Issue Contacting Brunei's Emergency Numbers

Friday, September 1, 2023
JOINT PRESS RELEASE
The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd, Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd, Imagine Sdn Bhd and Progresif Sdn Bhd.

The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) has become aware that users of certain mobile phone models from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, MI and Google brands may not be able to connect to the national emergency numbers, i.e. 991, 993, 995 and 998. Although the affected mobile phone models can connect well with other existing local three (3) digit numbers, the call gets disconnected when any of the emergency numbers (99X) is dialed. This is a known problem as mobile phone users from various countries also experience the same issue when dialling their respective countries’ emergency numbers.

In this regard, AITI would like to advise members of the public who use mobile phone models from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, MI and Google brands, to add the “+” sign at the end of the third digit of the 99X emergency numbers without space which should allow them to connect to the emergency numbers as shown in the table below:

All local mobile phone retailers who offer mobile phone models from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco, MI and Google brands for sale, are encouraged to make this information known to customers.
