Digital Brunei Empowers Warga Emas Community

Digital Brunei successfully conducted its fourth community outreach programme, showing its commitment to nurture digital literacy skills and awareness among the elderly population in Brunei Darussalam. The event was held at Dewan Kemasyarakatan Lambak Kanan 2 in Brunei-Muara District, in collaboration with the Brunei-Muara District Office and Pusat Kegiatan Warga Emas (PKWE) Brunei-Muara. 

Attended by over fifty (50) PKWE Brunei-Muara members, the event aimed at raising digital safety awareness among senior citizens and providing practical insights into local digital applications. 

The first half of the session included a presentation from AITI on the importance of SIM card registration to combat scams, followed by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF)’s presentation on cyber crime statistics and case studies in Brunei Darussalam. Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) also presented, highlighting on safety measures to prevent the misuse of Artificial Intelligence for scams.

In the second half, Progresif Sdn Bhd showcased their digital wallet, “Ding!”, followed by a presentation by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), which raised awareness about digital etiquette and common online scams that affect their customers. The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) concluded with a demonstration of their Mushaf Brunei application - a mobile application that allows Muslims to access the Al-Quran conveniently on mobile devices. 

These informative sessions aimed to provide practical knowledge and guidance to help senior citizens navigate the digital landscape safely.  Moving forward, Digital Brunei aims to continue outreach with PKWE in the remaining districts, with hopes to extend the programme to other vulnerable communities, upholding its commitment to bridging the digital divide and fostering nationwide digital inclusion. 

Digital Brunei is an initiative by the Digital Economy Council, which is facilitated by AITI with the aim to empower the community through digital technology in an effort to create a more digitally-inclusive society. This initiative also aims to establish Brunei Darussalam as a nation that fosters innovation and digital technology by raising awareness of national  digitalisation efforts. Digital Brunei is committed to aligning its objectives with the goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035 and supporting the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025.
