Brunei Darussalam representatives to the ASEAN Cyberkids Camp 2024 received the bronze awards for ASEAN Cyberkids Camp 2024 hosted in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. The competition, organised by Viet Nam’s Ministry of Information and Communications, was held from 8 to 9 August 2024.

Representing Brunei were four students from Sekolah Rendah Rimba III in two teams: Dayangku Nur Wadya Sorfena binti Pengiran Wira Satria, Noor ‘Afiah Nabilah binti Ahmad ‘Afif, Mohammad Daniyal Al-Baihaqi bin Haji Roslan, and Dasuki bin Mohamad Hashnalhakhim. They were accompanied by their tutors, Hajah Kartika binti Haji Othman and Awangku Khairi Waddin bin Pengiran Tajuddin.

Sekolah Rendah Rimba III previously won the Primary School Category of the “Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools” competition held in February 2024, a culmination of the pilot project between Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and Ministry of Education which aimed to improve the students’ coding skills and computational thinking through learning using smart devices. The school was also the winner for Primary School Category in Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2024 recently held in July 2024.

With the theme “Educational Games or Interactive Stories to Foster Students to Become Scientists”, participants were tasked to create a project using Scratch version 3.0 software. Out of a total of 10 teams, Myanmar’s team bagged the Gold award, while Malaysia and Viet Nam’s teams were awarded Silver. The remaining teams including Brunei’s two teams received Bronze awards.

The ASEAN Cyberkids Camp, introduced in 2008 and initiated by Malaysia, aims to enhance the skills of students aged between 7 and 12 in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, creative use of ICT, and awareness of cross-cultural issues. The Camp is one of the initiatives under the ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN) which is supported by the ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM) in which AITI is actively involved.
